BIO

Amina Diop smiling with her flute

Young Italian-Senegalese flutist established in France and Belgium, Amina Diop embodies the harmonious fusion of multiple cultures within her musical practice. Her journey, imbued with a wealth of experiences and cultural diversity, reflects her musical vision transcending borders to celebrate the diversity of artistic expressions. Her artistic approach naturally integrates innovation and excellence, thus echoing the principles of renewal, inclusiveness and artistic quality that guide her musical practice and professional commitments.

Amina Diop was born in Treviso in northern Italy.

She arrived in Belgium in 2006 and it was at the age of ten that she began playing the flute at the Tamines Academy. In addition to music, she takes classical dance and theater classes. At the age of fifteen, she joined the Young Talents section of the Institut Royal Supérieur de Musique et de Pédagogie of Namur where she obtained her Specialized Master's degree with Great Distinction in 2021, in the class of Denis-Pierre Gustin.

Throughout her studies, she participated in national and international competitions including the Concours Artistique d'Epinal (France) where she won second prize, but also the Lions Club Competition where she obtained a mention, Concorso Gazzelloni in Italy, the Dutch Competition in the Netherlands, Concours Sonatina in Brussels.

She also participates in numerous master classes, notably with Andrea Oliva (principal flute of the Orchestra Santa Cecilia in Rome), Aldo Baerten (principal flute at the Symfonisch Orkester Opera Vlaanderen in Antwerp) and Peter Verhoren (principal piccolo at the Symfonisch Orkester Opera Vlaanderen in Antwerp).

Amina Diop has played in different orchestras such as the Walloon Symphony Orchestra, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra of Liège, the Royal Opera Orchestra of Wallonia and the National Orchestra of Pays de La Loire with conductors such as Patrick Davin, Ronald Zollman, Victor Jacob, Ayrton Desimpelaere, Philippe Gérard, Jean-Luc Votano, Alexandre Rudin and Gergely Madaras.

Since 2019, Amina has taught in various music schools in France and Belgium, she has been part of the KYMA Ensemble and regularly plays chamber music programs alongside the talented pianist Hasmik Manukyan but also with Nathan Herman, Gilles Bréda, Sophie Hallynck and Aitua Igeleke.

In 2021, Amina Diop took her first steps in cultural mediation within the association Cinémas et Cultures d'Afrique from the city of Angers. At the same time, she was selected to join the teaching staff of the Démos system of the Philharmonie de Paris and she gave lessons and flute  masterclasses at the CRR in Angers.

In November 2022, Amina is called to join the very first educational council of the Philharmonie des Enfants with the aim of testing, reflecting, experimenting, exchanging with other professionals around musical pedagogy and having a concrete impact on the evolution of mediation tools from the Philharmonie de Paris.

Wishing to get closer and closer to the culturel administration, Amina Diop is accepted at the University of Angers in the Master's program in the "Management of cultural establishments and projects" course where she studies cultural mediation, communication and management. It is within the prestigious Institut de Recherche et Coordination Acoustique/Musique, in Paris, that she works on the artistic direction and coordination of the ManiFeste 2023 festival and academy where she welcomes artists such as the Ensemble Intercontemporain, the 'Orchester National d'Île-de-France and many renowned composers.

At the same time, she created her stationery company dedicated to musicians and in June 2023 she launched the DAL SEGNO brand and the Carnet N.1, today recognized by many professional musicians as an innovative tool and already distributed in the most prestigious boutique booksellers in France and Belgium.

In February 2024, Amina joined the equality and inclusion team at the Center National de la Musique, in Paris, convinced of being able to help in the fight against inequalities in classical music and more generally in culture.

In September 2024, Amina will take her first steps at the Paris National Opera by joining the Academy team in her role as administration and production manager.

Although Amina Diop's desire is to professionalize in cultural administration, she does not abandon her first passion: performing on stage. In France, Belgium or Italy, in orchestra, as a soloist or in chamber music groupe, Amina continues to take the stage with her instrument, convinced of the complementarity of her activities.
